The Apache JMeter is an open source load testing tool developed by the Apache Foundation that can be used to test performance both on static and dynamic resources. It can be used to simulate a heavy load on a server and also some functional testing. JMeter has an open architecture that can be extended with plugins. The goal of the JMeter plugins is to extend the basic functionality of Apache Jmeter with graphs, load delivery controllers and other function that are not present in the core features of this tool. They also allow including or driving load testing from other tools, in a continuous integration or delivery process with Jenkins for instance. This article presents a list of open source and commercial JMeter plugins. We have also added some utilities and software testing frameworks build around Apache JMeter. If you want to add a tool to this page, just let us now using the contact form. Updates * October 8 2024 : added Prometheus Listener for JMeter, Jmeter Backend Azure, Pacing Jmeter Plugin * June 19 2023 : added KLoadGen, JMeter ElasticSearch Backend Listener, Influx DB v2.0 listener plugin for Apache JMeter * June 21 2021 : added Load Testing Center, JMeter GRPC Request, Kubernetes JMeter * March 17 2020 : added JMeter EC2 Script, Apache JMeter Plugin For Apache Dubbo, JMeter RMI plugin, JMeter WebSocket Samplers, Katalon JMeter Integration, AutoMeter * September 3 2018: added WS-Security Plugin for JMeter, MQTT JMeter Plugin, JMeter HTTP Form Manager * February 27 [...]

JMeter is an open source test automation framework developed under the stewardship of the Apache Foundation that is mainly used for performance and load testing. This article provides pointers to documentation, tutorials, courses and videos to learn to use JMeter. Author: Franco Martinig, Martinig & Associates What is JMeter? Apache JMeter is an open source test automation framework. This Java application is a software testing tool used mainly to perform load and performance testing. It is very helpful to verify the capabilities of websites to keep small responsive time when they are under the stress of higher traffic, in the case of Black Friday sales or promotions from casino for instance. JMeter is the software behind some of the online commercial load testing platforms like Blazemeter or LoadView. This provides an additional motivation to learn to use this tool. Besides the main features, the capabilities of this testing framework have been extended by open source and commercial Jmeter plugins. JMeter Learning Resources * Apache JMeter User Manual Getting Started This is the official documentation from the Apache JMeter team on how to get started. The documentation also contains information on distributed testing or extending JMeter with plugins. Website: https://jmeter.apache.org/usermanual/get-started.html * Tutorial Series: Load Testing with Apache JMeter This tutorial contains two parts that show you how to use JMeter to record test scenarios, and to perform load testing on your web servers.

Apache JMeter is an open source load and performance testing tool developed by the Apache Foundation that has become a major asset in software testing, being also used as a solution for many online commercial load testing services. The book “Master Apache JMeter From load testing to DevOps” provides an impressive amount of knowledge on how to successfully use JMeter, from your first steps with the tool to its integration in a DevOps approach. “Master Apache JMeter From load testing to DevOps” will carry you in 500 pages through a journey that ranges from covering many global concepts of load and performance testing to a step-by-step implementation of a testing strategy using Jmeter, with many screenshots, diagrams and code examples. My favorites parts were the one dealing with * tuning your testing tactic according to your target (website, web services, database, …), * interpreting the test results and choosing load testing metrics, * integrating load testing in a DevOps / Agile approach of continuous delivery. This book is naturally a must have for every software tester working with JMeter, but it will also provide valuable knowledge and solution to every software tester or developer concerned with the performance of her or his application. Reference: Master Apache JMeter From load testing to DevOps, Antonio Gomes Rodrigues, Philippe Mouawad and Milamber, http://leanpub.com/master-jmeter-from-load-test-to-devops Quotes It’s important to understand that a load test is only a simulation. This implies that despite all the possible and imaginable tests, you don’t have a 100% guarantee that [...]

Apache JMeter is one of the most well known open source tool that can be used to perform load testing or functional testing. The book Performance Testing with JMeter 2.9 written by Bayo Erinle provides you with the knowledge to start using JMeter and the basic concepts for successful performance testing. This practical book focuses on how to use Apache JMeter to meet your testing needs. It starts with a quick introduction on performance testing and then presents more in detail topics like recording test scripts or monitoring system resources. It also explores related activities like using the cloud for testing or extending Apache JMeter with plugins. You will also get the basic knowledge on how to use tools such as Vagrant, Puppet and Apache Tomcat. This book is well written and provides a solution-oriented perspective on performance testing with JMeter with a use case that is explained throughout the book. I will recommend it to every software tester or software developer that needs to perform some performance or load testing activities. If you don’t want to install JMeter on your machine, you can also explore the free pricing options available from hosted load testing tools vendors that are based on JMeter in our article Free Web Load Testing Services. Reference: Performance Testing with JMeter 2.9, Bayo Erinle, Packt Publishing, ISBN 978-1-78216-584-2 Quotes At a very high level, performance testing is always almost conducted to address one or more risks related to expense, opportunity costs, continuity, and/or corporate reputation.

Cloud applications typically involve several components that interact through an API that exchanges data in either the XML or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) formats. This article from Shalini Gilra, Prem Prakash and Tom Tuohy discusses techniques for using the open source tool Apache JMeter to perform functional, performance and reliability testing of Cloud applications that use RESTful web APIs and JSON. As multitenancy is an important feature of Cloud application, this article shows how to incorporate data separation and data retrieval programmatically to ensure data integrity. It explains how to write effective JMeter test scripts that facilitate the maintenance, re-usability, and modularity. You will also learn how to use configuration and properties files so that the same scripts can run in multiple environments. The article also explains how to etend functional JMeter scripts for performance and reliability testing Read the complete article on http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/cloud/library/cl-jmeter-restful/index.html

Running stress- or load-tests of asynchronous REST/HTTP services with JMeter is only the first step in performance improvement. If the applications have problems when load increases, you need to find where the issues are. You can spend a lot of time to examine the code base before – if ever – finding the cause of the performance problem. This blog post provides an introduction on how to record and examine telemetry performance measurements with Yourkit3 after running JMeter tests.
